More AboutJake

Strategy, sales, and the first call.

When you reach out to ARTILLERY, Jake is the person you’ll meet with. He runs every discovery call, writes every proposal, and leads the strategy behind every site we build. His job is to understand your business, your audience, and your goals before a single pixel moves, and to keep the team aligned with that understanding all the way to launch.

One of Jake’s top strengths is Arranger® which means Jake treats every project like a composition. The structure matters as much as the feel. He’s the bridge between what you need and what the rest of the team build. When something isn’t right, he wants to hear about it. When a project hits a creative fork, he’ll ask the question that clarifies it. And when you’re not sure where to start, that first conversation with him is where the whole project begins to take shape.

Outside of client work, Jake co-hosts ARTILLERY’s podcast Slow & Steady, writes the monthly ARTILLERY Update newsletter, and spearheads the agency’s work on AI Copywriting, the service that turns a brand into a living, voice-consistent Project Core.

The long story.

Jake was born in California and moved to Lincoln, Nebraska around age ten. He was homeschooled through sixth grade, the kind of start that tends to make a person equal parts curious and self-directed. By his teens he was deep into music: country and folk, specifically, built around the fiddle and mandolin. That music eventually became how he met his future business partner.

In the early 2010s, Jake studied at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Marketing with a minor in Music. During those years, he crossed paths with John Wooten through Lincoln’s local music scene. Two musicians who also happened to be obsessed with building things on the internet. John had already founded ARTILLERY in 2006. In 2014, Jake came on full-time.

Since then, ARTILLERY has built and now manages more than 500 websites, earned more than 215 five-star Google reviews, and grown into one of the Midwest’s most-requested WordPress design companies. Jake’s role has evolved with it. What started as strategy and sales now spans client relationships, proposal writing, team leadership, podcast hosting, and most recently designing the AI copywriting service that makes ARTILLERY distinct from every other agency in its market.

Jake is also the owner and operator of Artemis Sites, LLC, the entity through which every ARTILLERY build is executed. It’s the legal and operational machine behind the brand. The machine that makes the whole thing run.

When he's not at the laptop.

Jake plays guitar, fiddle, and mandolin in The Colten Wyatt Band, a country band based out of Lincoln, Nebraska. Jake also is the worship director at Center Church in Lincoln, NE. The music minor he picked up at UNL helps him navigate his parallel life for almost two decades.

Besides music, Jake enjoys playing basketball (and all things fitness), and being with his wife (Haley) and their 2 young boys.
